Dubai 2010 - Day 11
Today, being the last day in Dubai, was supposed to be really nice and calm and relaxing. Just hanging out with my parents and just making sure that we got everything that we wanted and make a last trip to Carefour (supermarket) to buy some groceries that we wanted to bring to Sweden...
Unfortunetly that isn't really what happened...
In the morning we realized that the fridge had stopped working - there was a large water leak and the compressor stopped. So we had to get a new fridge a.s.a.p (since it was Thursday, Friday and Saturdays are days of in Dubai as well as Friday being New Years.).
We woke up and decided not to go to the beach until a little later since my Mom told her manicurist to come early. Unfortunely she arrived late so we would have had time to go to the beach for a couple of hours. But I did get a manicure and a pedicure. And then we went to the hairdresser to give me a quick haircut. I look like a new person =) No not really - but it sure is nice to get it all done at once...
Mai and Omar were one their way and we were going to meet them at The Emirates Mall, but it was time to drop Mom of at work and then Andy and I continued to the Mall. Mai's husband Waleed also met us at The Emirates Mall, but unfortunetly we didn't have to much time to hang with them since we had to see if we could get a fridge delivered. But we decided that they were going to come with us back home to have dinner together, one last time before we left. When we got going from the mall, we went to pick up my Mom, but my Dad called and said that he had found a fridge and a store that deliver today... So off we went to Time Square to buy the fridge together with my Mom and Dad.
After buying the fridge, we went back home to see Mai, Waleed and Omar being there. We started making dinner and we had another Egyptian dinner - this time it was actually an Egyptian breakfast with foul (brown beans), misshh (strong cheese and tomato mix), taymeya (Egyptian falafel - green bean paste, fried in oil), white goat cheese and Egyptian flat bread. It's the best breakfast ever - unfortunetly we don't get to eat it a lot but it really is one of my absolute favorites!
Foul, 2 different kinds and taymeya.
Egyptian pickles - Torshi , eggplant pickles and green olives.
Misshh - a mixture of strong cheese, usually aged mixed with diced tomatoes.
YUMMY!
After dinner Mai, Waleed and Omar said their goodbyes and we finished our packing. We wanted to make sure we had a couple of hours of sleep before we went of to the airport for our trip back home to Sweden.
Our Dubai 2010 trip is over for this time. Thank you soo much Mom and Dad - we've had a really great time and it has been relaxing and fun and we've enjoyed ourselves. Thank you for everything!

Dubai 2010 - Day 10
It's only 2 days till we leave Dubai, so we want to get some stuff done, although we just want to relax too...
After a quick breakfast with my mom we went down to the beach and spent a few hours in the sun. It's just so nice to lay there and not do anything, read, enjoy the sun, beach and sea...
I'm a picking shells kind of a girl and Dubai has some of the greatest shells!
After some fun in the sun, we went to the apartment and and got ourselves ready. Then we took Moms car and went to Atlantis to take our first geocache in Dubai. This is what it looks like when we geocache - our tools...
Atlantis really is a beautiful hotel.
Then we made our way home, which is about a 3 minute drive, and picked up my Mom and little brother to go to the Ibn Battuta Mall. It's a nice mall although not as spectacular as The Dubai Mall or The Emirates Mall.
We spent about 1 hour and 30 minutes clothes shopping for me and I found lots of clothes. Lots and Lots. So I've now got a whole new wardrobe. I love me some sales.
One thing that I do love about the Ibn Battuta Mall is the ceiling in one of the center domes. I absolutely LOVE the color and patterns of the mosaic. There was a Starbucks and another cafe in the dome and I would have loved to just have a seat at the cafe and stare at the ceiling.
After my shopping =) we went back home and rested some before Mai and Omar came over and we had dinner. My Mom had made Koshari - the Egyptian national dish - which we ALL LOVE. It's one of my absolute favorite foods. Yum!
After dinner Mai, Omar, Andy and I went to The Dubai Mall to see the infamous fountain. We walked around the mall and it sure is a great mall. If there were people there at ALL time I would have sat myself next to the aquarium and just watched the fishes for hours and hours. The sharks and the stingrays are amazing, as well as the John Dorie fish and all of the other smaller fish.
We intended to sit at one of the many cafés at the outside of The Dubai Mall, but unfortunetly they were totally filled. So we made our way to Starbucks, bought coffee and then went and walked around the fountain-area and sat right below Burj Kalifa (the worlds tallest building).
It was really nice to just sit there and hang out with one of my best friends, her son and my husband. The fountain was great - with the music it was really cool.
And the Burj Kalifa watched over us all night...

Dubai 2010 - Day 9
We woke up today and decided to go for a swim eventhough our tummies still weren't golden. Some sun would do us good. Dad went to work early and after Mom and Little brother left, we started to make breakfast. But then we decided to go to Costa Café instead for breakfast. A nice change...
After breakfast we went straight to the beach and made ourselves comfortable for a couple of hours in the sun.
After a few hours of reading and listening to music in the sunshine we had a shift change with my Little brother. We took "over" Mom and he took over our sun chairs =) We changed and then we set of for a new adventure with Mom. I love how the gps shows the Palm =)
We were on our way to Dragon Mart - pretty much Chinatown. Lots of cool shopping for good prices, what could be better? Also we called my friend Mai and told her to meet us there...
On the way to Dragon Mart we checked on the Burj Kalifa - it was still there...
At Dragon Mart - it's an indoor Chinatown that is about 1 ½ km in length with thousands of small shops.
Airconditioned, indoor and shopping galore...
There are different areas of shops, Textiles, Bags, Furniture, Jewelry, Nick-nacks and so on... We walked about 1/5 of the place and got tired. We found lots of crap but also alot of fun things... Maybe I'll show you later...
I'm hoping that we might have time to have another go at Dragon Mart - but I think it'll be hard.
On the way home, Andy drove and we checked the Burj Kalifa again, and it was still there. The skyline is quite awesome and when you see it like this you realize quite how tall the Burj Kalifa really is. It's at least 3 times as high as most of the other buildings.
A close up... As close as one can get in a car on the high way...
Mai, her son Omar and her husband Waleed, followed us home and we made an Egyptian dinner. My Mom is great at cooking and when she makes Egyptian food it is always incredably good.
Betingan maley - fried eggplant with a garlicy tomato sauce.
Salata - salad with a dressing of vinegar and salt.
Batatis fill forn - Potatoes in the oven.
Lahmet Entrecote - Entrecote.
I don't really remember the name of these but it's puff pastry with ground beef inside.
Mahshi - Cabbage rolls filled with a rice and tomato mixture.
Wara Eenab - Grape leaf rolls with a rice and tomato mixture.
Yum!
A very good day with shopping, friends, and spending time with family.
