Yesterdays lunch

I wasn't feeling too well yesterday so I wasn't really in the mood to go to the grocery store and since our Microwave oven was broken (now fixed, since apparently the plug had slipped out of the socket) I couldn't re-heat any of the 10 lunchboxes that my mom gave me this weekend. So I was "forced" to make do with the food that I had at home, and since that wasn't much and I wasn't in the food making mood, I had to settle for something easy and quick. I was reading some blogs when I found Frida's blog where she talked about a lentil soup she had made. So I decided to try making one myself, even though I wasn't absolutely sure that I actually liked lentils. So I fried an onion in some olive oil and added some bacon slices. Fried them until the onion became transparent. Then I added 1 dl lentils and about 1 liter water. I also used lots of spices, I'm not quite sure which ones, but just add whatever you want. Then I let the soup boil about 20 minutes and the soup should thicken, it should be like pea soup. If you taste it, the lentils should be soft. I served my soup with some creamy hamburger dressing since I had no yogurt or creme fraiche. It was scrumptious! Give it a try you will definitely be surprised.

A look in to Siro's home...

Last Sunday my mother, father, Adde and I were invited to spend the day with Siro and her mother and father. My mother and Siro's mother are close friends and have been so since the beginning of the 80's. So in effect Siro has known me all my life, and now that the years have past we have become great friends, well more than friends, she is more like an older sister. We had been planing this get together for quite a while, but it has been difficult to get all of us together, but we finally managed.

Siro moved to a new beautiful apartment 5 months ago, an apartment that she has longed for, an apartment that she has made her home. I've visited her several times before, but this last time, it really feels that she has settled down nicely and that she really feels at home. And can only agree with her, since it is a beautiful home.

We were invited for dinner, and like always the food was great. Since Siro's family is from Lebanon, her mother makes amazing Lebanese food. And I just love the different sauces and salads and all that comes with the "meze" culture.

For starters we were served Fried Hallomi cheese with peppers, Labna (yogurt sauce with mint and olive oil), eggplant salad, Humus (a chickpea sauce) and salad. For main course oven roasted potatoes and a oven made chicken and mushroom gratin. Everything was amazing, we all ate way too much.

Before dessert we took a walk around the block and down to 2 lakes in the area. The lakes were frozen over so we took a stroll on the lake. It was all very cosy since it was snowing a little bit.

Back home again we ate desert, filo pastry with Café Latté ice cream and Physiallis fruit. This also was very yummy.
Siro has very many beautiful details in her home and I wanted to show a couple of those details that make her house a home. Both me and Adde really liked her wall mounted lamps and her ceiling light. Lovely rustic metallic feel with a nice warm glow. The tiles in her nice and cozy kitchen, made from what we call in Sweden "Sjösten" I'm not sure what that's called in English, but it basically translates to Sea Stone. The lovely red corner light that seriously has the cosy-est glow about it. The heart shaped wall hangers that are so cute and make me happy. These also are very similar to the candle holder, that is very beautiful. The three black and white photos from Egypt (that my mother gave Siro) are absolutely gorgeous. I LOVE them. And lastly the "Japan shelf" that Sirine calls it, with souvenirs from all over the world. I love the two small Arabic lamps.

These are of course just a small part of her amazing home, but a small part that I like the best. It was truly a lovely day, that we are sure to do again, hopefully soon. And I hope that I will be able to invite them all to my home soon. When I get a home that is somewhat larger and more guest friendly.

Thank you Siro for everything. Also thank you Siro's mom for the amazing food.

Tjejsnack vecka 9

Snabbmat

  • Vad äter du för sorts snabbmat? Gillar i stort sett all sorts snabbmat, pizza, hamburgare, kebab, you name it...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Fast food
  • What kind of fast food do you eat? Pretty much all kinds of fast food, pizza, hamburgers, kebab, you name it...
  • What fast food would you never eat? The kind of fast food they serve in China, fried roaches and grasshoppers and so on.
  • Do you think the fast food market needs to expand? I don't think it needs to, I'm quite content with the current market.
  • Best fast food place? McDonald's, without a doubt.
  • Worst fast food place? Sundays in Södertälje. And Sibylla isn't something I'd eat if I wasn't forced.

Pie for us both

Yesterdays lunch date was great. Sofia and I ate at Cafe Linné, we both ate pie. I guess it wasn't really supposed to be a 6 hour lunch date, but we started talking and then we went shopping :) Wee...

We went shopping for some yarn so that Sofia can knit a hat for me and then I bought 2 tops, one pink and one turquoise in color. Sofia seems to think that I don't wear enough colors, I have NO idea what she means ;)

Snow and Sunshine

The snowflakes are dancing outside my window, it is very pretty, it makes you feel so harmonious. I like the snow, I really do, especially when its about 7 degrees minus and the sun is shining, just like it is today.

I'm going to go to the north of Sweden with my boyfriends family in the end of march, and I hope it is going to be the same amazing weather all of that week. It was last year, so why shouldn't it be this year?

"Give them Semlor..."

In Sweden we are today celebrating, Fettisdagen, which translated literally means fat Tuesday. On the third Tuesday of February each year Swedish people feast on the whipped cream pastry on the picture, called a Semla. The bun is a cardamon-spiced wheat bun. The top of the bun is sliced of and the insides of the bun is removed and mixed with almond paste and some milk, then placed back into the bun. Topped with whip cream and top of the bun, then confectioners sugar is sifted over. The bun is then eaten either by itself with coffee or placed in a bowl of hot milk. The bun originally has a religious connotation but now a days these buns are eaten just because they are yummy. When I was younger Semlor could only be found in February, but now a days you can buy them pretty much all of the time between Christmas and Easter. I personally don't like to eat them before Fettisdagen because I think it kind of negates the speciality of the bun. It might have something to do with the fact that I'm not really that fond of them which usually means that I just eat 1 or 2 buns a year, because I really don't like almond paste or whip cream. I know other people who eat 20-30 buns a year. When I was a child my mom used to slice open the bun and remove the insides and fill it is vanilla ice cream instead of the almond paste and whip cream. My brother and I loved it :)

If you are interested, recipes of Semlor can be found here. Unfortunately the recipes are in Swedish, if you need help translating just let me know.

Pretty for the bedroom

It has been a lot of furniture talk the last couple of days, I'm not quite sure why, but I guess that I'm pretty excited about having a house in the future, a house of my own. I want to make it my own place, everything has its place and it is all connected and intertwined in my own special style.

The Swedish store Indiska has some really nice things, as well as furniture, like this chest for example. I'd really like to have this chest at the end of my bed for example, a place to sit and take of socks or shoes (if you were to wear your shoes into your bedroom) or a place where you can lay your robe for easy access. A place where you can put your slippers. Also since you can open the chest you can place extra pillows, covers or bedsheets. Another thought that hit me is that Its a bit like a woman's bridal chest, which isn't really something that very normal nowadays, a tradition that is very special and that I believe should be continued.

Lunch outfit from Halens

I'm meeting Fia for lunch tomorrow and I'd really like to be dressed somewhat spring-y like the clothes in the collage. But since its like minus 3 degrees outside, I think I'll probably have to wear something more warm or include a pair of really thick stockings, a nice warm scarf, a hat and a pair of gloves. Then the outfit isn't so spring-y, but its still pretty :)
All of the pieces are from Halens.

  • Har du drömt "sann-drömmar" någon gång? Ja, flera gånger.

Sleep
  • What do you wear when you are sleeping? A nighty or PJ's

Mulberry Bayswater

I wish I had unlimited amounts of money, cause if I did I would buy a Mulberry Leather Bayswater bag. Look at it, it is amazing, I love the color of this soft leather, and it is one of those bags that will age gracefully. Its like Sofia and I talked about, when she bought a pair of lovely black leather Ecco boots, that good quality leather goods are an investment for future and for out children. The boots she bought are a perfect for her daughter when she is about our age. The more Sofia uses the boots the better they will become. It is the same with this Bayswater. The more it is used the softer the leather is going to be. I'd love to be able to give my daughter a present like this one when she turns 21. Except for the fact that I might be too fond of it so that I'll only let her borough it :) Anyways, if I only had unlimited amounts of money, I'd buy one of these, cause I sure as hell don't have € 805, 38 laying around. But if I did I probably would buy a gorgeous Bayswater for me and future generations of Lindberg women.

I just wanted to remind you all of the extremely beautiful scarfs that my mom brought home from Cairo, both Pashmina (70/30 and 100%) scarfs and Cotton scarfs in lots of amazing colors. Check them out maybe you'll find something you like. Amazing colors and textures.

FYI! Of course these scarfs are new and unused in perfect condition. They are a necessity for a woman in this time of year.

Can I be an Iron chef?

Any one want to play Iron Chef Sweden with me?

Have you guys watched Iron Chef (the Japanese version) ? I LOVE this show. It makes me happy. There is nothing about it that is "normal" everything is amazing, funny and strange.
For all of you who haven't see the show it is basically a competition between an Iron chef (4 different chefs that are like gladiators in the kitchen - they each have a speciality) and a challenger. Then there is a jury who decide which of the chefs win the competition. In the competition they receive a special ingredient, which they don't know about before the competition and then they have 60 minutes to make at least 3 different food dishes. It is amazing, 1. because it is in Japanese everything seems exotic 2. it is dubbed into English in the most humoristic way 3. the show is cheesy in a very good way 4. the secret ingredient they get is always very very strange.

If you want to watch the show, search for it at
You Tube.

Pottery Barn

The Pottery Barn has some amazing things that I'd love to have in a future home. Going through their online catalogue I realized I pretty much liked each "room" that they had set up. Doesn't this mean I should be institutionalized? Yeah, probably.

There were a couple of pieces and ideas that I really liked. And I thought I would share them with you. As you might have realized I really like large dark wooded furniture, rather a very "cigar-room" feel than anything else. But at the same time I want white clean spaces and no clutter. So it is hard to combine these two styles, but I think Pottery Barn shows that it can be done, and not to difficulty.
For example this chest, Emmett Trunk, used as a coffee table, made in darkened birch wood. I love the rustic, "cigar-room" feel to it, and I think it goes very well with the white sofa in the background. The possibility to open the chest/trunk also makes it very interesting, 1. because of storage (Yes, I do love my storage) 2. For easy cleaning when company come with short notice, just shove everything into the trunk and it will look much cleaner. The chest will set you back about $699.
Another great coffee table is this, Charter Coffee Table, in solid mahogany wood with drawers for, yes you guessed it, smart storage :) I like the fact that it is very low and that it has this beautiful dark wood. The color is called Espresso stain, and that just makes me dream about this dark warm mully place where all the furniture is the same beautiful dark brown. Unfortunately this only has 7 drawers and not 14 as I would like it to have, meaning that you have drawers on both sides. This will also cost you $699.
This cabinet system, Miller Modular Storage, is truly an act of genius. I love the fact that there are several cubbies for different things, such as an x cubby for whine bottles. Very Cool! Obviously you can create the shelving system the way you want it. I love that the shelves are black, but obviously they would look great in some other dark wood. I'd love to have this shelving system in my dining room or in a kitchen, however if i would have it in a kitchen I wouldn't want it in a dark color, but I would like to have it in white. I want my kitchen white. Yeah, I have strange ideas I know :) The cupboards at the bottom are great also, but I would probably like to have some cupboards on up at the top too. You can never have too much storage you know :) Can be made in pine or birch and costs, as it is in the picture above, $7000.
As long as we are in the dining room, I'd like to show this beautiful dining room table, Fransisco Dining Table, a squared table in a black, mahogany or white wood. The table sits 8 people, but can be extended so that it will seat 12. I would like to have chairs similar to the ones on the picture or dark colored chairs, same color as the table obviously, with seats in leather, somewhat lighter than the wood. I would also like to that this table, in white, in the kitchen, with a kitchen sofa, it would be the perfect place to have a lovely country breakfast with that family. The table costs $999.

I'm sure all of you would like to have this furniture too :) Its pretty isn't it :)

Lorena

I really like porcelain or china that is different. I don't want to have the same kind of china as everybody else, I want things that are different and that will make people surprised.

Lorena Barrezueta's china will definitely turn some heads since it looks like the plastic plates and aluminum forms that you get with take out, but it is actually white or colored porcelain. I really like it. The white with the gold trim can be really pretty with some colorful food, or having the colorful china with as either serving platters or like plates, you know cubby holed plates.

I like them very much. Also the orange is a pretty cool color. Different, cool and somewhat wild :)

Shiva is coming home with me...

I found a furniture line at Mio that make my knees weak. Its called Shiva and I want it, badly. I love the dark elm wood, the massive form. The furniture seems sturdy and well constructed, they look heavy. The legs on the furniture have a very nice curvature to them, that kind of want to make harmonious and happy. I absolutely LOVE the bedside table and the bed, but I'm kinda iffy on the other furniture, but I'm open to persuasion by the squared coffee table :) The only problem is the cost, well for me at least it feels like a problem. A bedside table for 1300 Kr is quite steep, and since you usually have two bedside tables, its even steeper. But all I know is that they make me happy, and I'd love to open my home to them. Welcome darling Shiva furniture!

Breakfast = Lasagna = true?

I hate eating breakfast, it just makes me queasy. I don't like the fact that breakfast consists of the same food over and over again for your whole life. Sure you can change it up a bit, there probably are a variation of 10 things you can eat. Sandwiches, eggs, yogurt...its just the same thing all the time and it makes me sick. I just don't want to eat another sandwich, its probably going to kill me, well almost.

The only breakfast I can eat without wanting to vomit is an Egyptian breakfast, consisting of lots of dishes that you mix and match and make your own great sandwich. Its a breakfast you eat with you hands, you get messy and it is just such a social gathering. Every time my family eats an Egyptian breakfast, it usually consists of all 6 of us (my parents, my fiance, my brother and his girlfriend and me) and it is made into a long sit down. You eat, you talk you laugh and it feels special.

If there is one thing that I hate more than breakfast it is eating breakfast alone, cause I just don't do alone. That is why I don't eat breakfast, there I said it, I, Kalli, don't eat breakfast. I'm a bad person, yep, bad bad me.

This morning, I happened to be hungry, since I didn't eat any dinner last night. So I decided to eat LASAGNA. Yep, Lasagna for breakfast. Who knew that Lasagna could be such a great breakfast?

Storage makes me happy...

Luca Nichetto has these fantastic storage units that can be used in the hallway, bathroom or just in any room basically. They are made out of ceramics, with different colors on the inside. Great for your keys, cell phone, wallet and other stuff that you always need on your way out. Medicines that might be needed or sunglasses for example. Also as the picture shows a hanger for clothes, for example jackets. These can be hung at any height so that kids can help themselves to their hats or gloves and jacket, a favorite bib or suckers. I love these, they are great, they are so versatile and smart. I want them in my hallway, NOW! I wonder where they can be found and how much they cost? Maybe something similar can be put together by me?

Tjejsnack vecka 7

------------
Valentines Day
  • What are your plans for Valentines Day? Well I don't really have any plans today since my fiance lives so far away, just about 300 km. We will probably cellebrate later on, but we are both the believers of showing our love and appreciation everyday instead of just one day of the year.
  • Do you usually buy presents, and whom do you give them to? Yeah, ususally I do buy presents, but this year we won't be giving any out. I usually buy for my fiance.
  • How does your dream date look like? I've already experienced my dream date, it was this summer in the island of Gotland. Sunset, good food, good drink, my fiance and cozy.
  • Best Valentines Day memory? None that I can remember or that stands out.
  • Who would you like to give a speciall valentines heart to today (Anybody that needs some extra love) My mother and father, they are amazing!

Clothes for a sick little girl

I'm a bit under the weather right now. Actually I'm pretty sick. I had surgery a couple of months back where I removed my tonsils and since then I've not really been sick at all, actually I've felt very well. Before the surgery I had tonsillitis 6 times a year, which I can tell you wasn't fun. So now I've pretty much gotten used to not being sick. Friday last week my thought started swelling up and I was having a harder time to breath, I was pretty sure I was getting sick. I have spent the weekend at my parents house so I haven't done too much, except get sicker and sicker. Right now I have an ear infection, tonsillitis (yeah I know, that makes no sense, but still) and a fever. I feel like I'm full with snot (excuse the grossness) and my body hurts, lots. Anyways, this wasn't supposed to be about how horrible I feel, but what I would like to be wearing while being sick. Ellos has a very cozy pink jumpsuit that I wouldn't mind wearing, I'd actually like it very much. Pink, Velour and hoody - can it get much better? Well actually since it only costs 99 Kr, I guess that kind of makes it better :)

My newest love, HTC P4350

I'm on the prowl for a new cell phone, well actually it isn't supposed to be just a cell phone but also a PDA. Right now I have a telephone with all the same kind of functions as the one I want now but I am not satisfied with the calender and the e-mail function. I am also using a large Filofax with all of my calendar information in. I don't want to carry both a phone, a Filofax and an mp3 player. I just want one gadget that does it all. The HTC P4350 is exactly what I need. The thing that really excites me (yeah I know I'm a real cell phone nerd) is that the phone has Wi-Fi, which basically means that I anywhere in the world connect to a wire less network and brows the Internet as much as I'd like. The phone is like having a small laptop in the palm of your hand at all times. Just think about it, I will no longer need to bring my laptop everywhere, especially to meetings and such (I get easily bored) but instead bring my beautiful little cell phone and have the Internet at my fingertips :) Also another good thing about this phone is that the phone has a auto-slide keyboard, so you can type sms, emails and other calender information properly and quickly. Also the phone can be synchronized with the computer quickly, Microsoft Outlook is used in both and will simply having all the same information. I am going to get the phone a.s.a.p and it will make me happy :) Oh and then I'm going to have a new cell phone number, so I'll get back to all of you with that later :)

Tjejsnack vecka 6

Hund, men även katt. Jag skulle vilja ha båda och. Men jag är nog framförallt en hund människa, en Huskey ska det helst vara, men en schäfer funkar också. Det ska vara en stor hund, en vakt hund, men också en gosig och snäll hund.
Sorry you English speakers out there, this post is a reucuring post each week, where about 700 female bloggers recieve the same questions to answer. This time the questions have a different format, an either or format. The questions are
  • A yuppi in a suit or a badboy? A badboy in a suit, maybe? On a serious note I'd rather have a yuppi with a badboy streak.
  • Straight or curly hair? Straight hair, at least on me.
  • Roses or Tulips? Roses, roses and then yet again roses. Roses make me happy, especially red ones. Although I'd rather recieve 1 large red sweet smelling rose that 10 roses bought, at lets say, ICA.
  • Chocolate flavored ice cream or Vanilla flavored ice cream? Vanilla flavored, preferably with some licorice topping or caramel sauce.
  • Dog or Cat? Dog, but also cat. I would like both. But mostly I'm a dog person, I would like a Huskey or a German Shepard. It should be a big dog, a watch dog, but also a nice cuddely and kind dog.

Scarfs for sale

My mom has just returned from Egypt with the most amazing Pashmina scarfs. I am so lucky to be able to have this connection through my mom, to get the most amazingly soft and lush scarfs, that I thought if anyone was interested in scarfs would share my scarfs with you.

The scarfs cost 70 Kr + shipping charges. There are many different colors, as you can see in the pictures. If you want more pictures just let me know. Also there is an Tradera auction with a beautiful Turquoise scarf that I would keep if I didn't have one already. These scarfs are perfect for all times of the year. It keeps you warm and beautifully accessorized.

I need a new Lunchbox

There are lunchboxes and there are lunchboxes. Unfortunately the lunchboxes I have aren't really sufficient for my needs. As a girl you always have the problem of where to place your lunchbox. If you put it in your purse with all your other things, you always risk having your purse and all the stuff in it smelling like salad dressing or some other food. And I might like the food when I eat it, but I'm not sure I want to smell it all day and for the next month. Of course you can carry your lunchbox in a little bag on the side, but that kind of negates the point of having a huge purse, right? And then you obviously have the option of having a cooling bag with you, like many Americans have, but that just ain't my cup of tea. When searching the net for smart things I found this Food thermos (that is what its called in Swedish anyways). Essentially it is a lunchbox with a heating or cooling containment capability. The food is kept warm for about 3-4 hours and if it cools it is just to reheat it in the microwave for a couple minutes. Also the inner bowl (removable) is 2 parts so you essentially can have 2 different foods or salad in one and food in the other. It costs 149 Kr, which is quite a bit more than you would pay for a lunchbox, but I definitely think it is worth it.

An outfit for a Monday

This outfit would be perfect for a Monday morning at the office. Add a pair of black tights and it probably won't be too cold. The dress, bag and boots can be found at the web shop Josefssons. This outfit would cost you at total of 457 Kr, which is not very much. Also the combination capability with the dress is great.

Furniture for a future home...

I found lots of inspiration for a future home at Elfa. Elfa is a Scandinavian furniture company, started in 1947, and now is comprised of about 10 firms, delivering furniture all over the world. They seem to have perfected the idea about smart storage as well as elegance. When ever I walk into a house or a home I almost automatically try to find how the home owners have solved the never-ending question of storage. There is a true fact in the universe and that truth is that you always have to much crap. And to be able to make sure to hide all that crap you need to find a sort of smart and well-hidden storage. And to tell you the truth, it is pretty damn hard.

I'm usually a person that likes my house very none cluttery, you should see lots of the beautiful wooden floors of the house, see the cream colored walls and the minimalistic feel should stand out. The rooms should be airy, light and none cluttery. So the picture on the left is actually not really my cup of tea, but I kinda like it anyways. I like the fact that the bed is enclosed. It feels really cosy. And at the same time it creates lots of smart storage. I guess this is a very smart solution if you happened to have a small bedroom. It is just a little too cluttery for my taste.

When I have a house I will make sure that my kitchen has a "walk-in" pantry. A place where all the stuff that you don't really want or need to have on the kitchen counter, within arms length, can be stashed away. Of course this pantry should be equipped with lots of smart shelving. Something like the picture on the right would be a dream of mine.

As far as the bathroom is concerned , the bathroom is a place where you need lots and lots of storage. As a girl it isn't a big deal to have 10 perfume bottles, 8 body lotions and 532 thousand other product that are used anywhere from everyday to every other year. That's just the way it is, and trying to change it is just meaningless. Just live with it! So therefore it is quite smart to have a storage system as the picture on the left shows. A very smart drawer/basket system where you can see the content of each drawer/basket and you can have different sizes and lots of variation. Granted the system isn't pretty, but it is smart and easy. This might be one of those things that you have in a bathroom that usually only is used by the family (if you might have another bathroom for guests). Also hiding the system isn't to hard with some pretty fabric.

Lastly you can never have too much storage in your hallway. It's not very pretty to have shoes, gloves, jackets, hats and bags all over the floor and walls just as you enter your beautiful house. It doesn't really give the best of impressions. Therefore using a chest of drawers or a shelving system to stuff away things that aren't too pretty or just not fun to have around is pretty smart. I know that my parents had a shelf made for shoes, it was really flat, just so that 2 rows of shoes would fit and then you could pull the drawer out and see all of the shoes. Very smart. Also the storage system on the right is pretty smart, placing it on the door makes sure that you can close the door and not see the baskets also you don't need to clutter up the hall way with yet another piece of furniture.

Seriously visit Elfa's website, they have lots of great ideas for inspiration and even if you don't plan to buy anything via them you can always build your own.
